Matt got an early start and headed out with our middle kid. She’s the early bird, and she got the Casey’s donut this time. (Shh…don’t tell the other kids.)

Matt started by doing some cleanup in the mudroom. He cut out a whole rats’ nest of old wires that were no longer needed.

Once the bro-in-law got there, it was door time. Bye, old thing. It is not a day of sorrow.

This is the opening between the garage and the mudroom, and this is an interior, hollow-core door. It is not code-approved to put this type of door here, for both security and fire reasons. Security doors are expensive, so I guess the previous owners cut costs or something. The knob never even had a lock on it.

First the guys took out the old door (Yippee!!!) and made sure the opening would fit the new door.

For once, the opening was just about the right size and needed very little adjustment. So many things have gone wrong with this place, that it’s a surprise when something goes right!

The guys fastened in the frame, supporting the threshold with an extra board underneath. No rocking here!

Esther (okay, we all know it’s me. It gets old writing in third person)–I–wasn’t feeling that great but still wanted to be near Matt. He’d worked a lot of overtime this week and we hadn’t seen much of each other. I was just going to be working on the computer anyway, so I lugged along my laptop and hotspotted it. It was so nice, and I was still able to help in small ways, like helping with managing the kids’ mowing rotations, and re-caging one of our baby oak trees that Matt grew from an acorn.

These kids. Total goofballs. Not even sure what they were doing, but they were having a grand ol’ time.

Yay!!! New door is in!!!

And it locks!!! We even had Menards re-key it so that it matches our other locks. Sooo nice.
