We should have planned that doorway better.

Except, originally it didn’t matter, because this closet space under the stairs:

was only intended to be a closet, because we were going to sell. Simple, straightforward plan.
But then we decided that, if we were going to move back in, a half-bath under the stairs would be much more desirable in our 1-bath house than simply closet space:

Problem was, there was no configuration that worked well with the…current…doorway. Especially taking into account the new HVAC ducts directly underneath the floor on the east side of the closet (i.e. plumbing through the floor = not a great idea there).
I tried, hard. Floor planners are great for this kind of thing, placing your toilet and sink in five different ways that don’t work, and finding only two that do, and only if the door is moved.
Le sigh.
