Give Me Victory…or Let Me Die of Itchiness

Two girls and I went back Monday afternoon and spent an hour cleaning up the mess left from the week of work, vacuuming and organizing tools. With the heat advisory and the A/C not hooked back up yet, we made it an hour before calling it quits.

Matt and I went back Tuesday evening. It was like death. The heat index was still two hundred bajillion, and there wasn’t a breath of wind, unlike the previous days.

Matt installed the half-bath ventilation unit, and all I did was vacuum. I still had to go cool off in the car every little bit. It did not feel like we made much progress.

Did I mention it was horrible?

Despite working overtime Wednesday, Matt worked on the house that evening for a couple hours. He decided, (and I quote) “I could either die by heat or by itchiness, and I thought itchiness didn’t sound as bad.” So he finished re-wiring the A/C, and turned it on, despite this meaning the itchy insulation fibers would be more contained within the house instead of aired outside.

One of the things he worked on was a plan to insulate the vaulted roof in the mudroom, a tricky place to insulate. This is the first sheet of foam board insulation that he installed.

Thursday one of our daughters had a birthday party that we prioritized, and then Friday Matt worked overtime.

Saturday found us all back out there again, insulating away and finishing up the last of the wiring loose ends.

Junction box–a place where wires are connected to give power to the circuits. Or, with some imagination, the wire-monster’s lair.

And then, since we were still not done, Sunday found Matt and me and our three oldest bathing in insulation yet again.

The kids were actually pretty good at it!

We all got particularly itchy starting around 3 pm. Many ice cream treats were necessary to keep us fortified.

But. We finally called it ready at 6 pm.

Ready for drywall!
